Dean Smith $200 checks – While alive Dean Smith never missed an opportunity to thank his players and even on his death-bed he made sure to thank his players one last time.
The former North Carolina coach, who died last month at 83, directed his trust in his will to give $200 to every letter winner who played for him during his 36 seasons as head coach at the school.
A photo on Twitter shows a letter former player Dante Calabria received from Dean Smith’s Trust, along with a check for $200.
The note, in part, reads: “Each player was important and special to Coach Smith and when he prepared his estate plan, Coach wanted to reach out to each of his lettermen. Accordingly, Coach directed that following his passing, each letterman be sent a $200 check with the message, “Enjoy a dinner out compliments of Coach Smith.”
