A mysterious base built by the Nazis during World War II has resurfaced on the island of Alexandra Land 1,000 kilometers from the North Pole.
A mysterious abandoned base, known as the “Schatzgräber” or “Treasure Hunter”, has surfaced on the Alexandra Land island 1,000 kilometers from the North Pole. It has been discovered by Russian scientists, says The Independent.
Wanted by Adolf Hitler after the invasion of Russia by the army of the Third Reich in 1942, this secret base used to store ammunition, as well as meteorological and strategic tools.
After being hit by an epidemic attributed to polar bear meat consumption, the staff was forced to leave the site for over 40 years.
The Russian scientists were able to seize 500 items including some items from bunkers, abandoned gas cans and even paper documentation partly preserved.
